On February 3, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in India hosted the 2026 Chinese New Year’s reception at the Shangri-La Hotel in New Delhi. Representatives from Indian government, political parties, diplomatic corps, enterprises, think tanks, media as well as overseas Chinese, Chinese enterprises and students were present.

Xu Ambassador Xu Feihong extended Chinese New Year greetings to all the guests. He stated that last year marked the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, with China’s GDP exceeding ¥140 trillion ($20 trillion), reaching a new milestone and contributing more than 30% to global economic growth. Facing a world of growing changes and turbulence, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative, calling for a more just and equitable global governance system, which has received positive responses and support from over 150 countries and international organizations.

Last August, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a successful meeting in Tianjin, which leads China-India relations from “a reset and fresh start” to a new level of improvement, with the bilateral relationship continuing to improve steadily. In 2025, bilateral trade between China and India reached a record high of $155.6 billion, registering a year-on-year growth of over 12%, with India’s exports to China growing by 9.7%. China stands ready to strengthen strategic alignment with India, deepen practical cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen multilateral coordination. Overseas Chinese, Chinese enterprises, and Chinese students in India constitute vital bridges for China-India exchanges and cooperation. It is hoped that they will continue to make active contributions to advancing bilateral relations and promoting the cause of China-India friendship.

At the reception, the Peking duck, prepared by the embassy chefs, embodied the essence of traditional Chinese cuisine. The violin concerto “Jasmine Flower” and the erhu solo “Horse Racing” showcased the charm of Chinese culture, while the chorus performance of “Tomorrow Will Be Better” brought the event to a climax.
