BIO-PROFILE OF DR. S. JAISHANKAR
Ambassador of India to People’s Republic of China
Dr. S. Jaishankar served, immediately before his present appointment, as the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore. He was earlier the head of the Americas Division in the Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassador of India in Prague, Deputy Chief of Mission in Tokyo, and Press Secretary to the President of India. He has also worked in different capacities in Indian Embassies in Washington DC, Moscow, Colombo and Budapest, as well as in the Ministry of External Affairs. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1977.
Dr. Jaishankar holds a Ph.D. and M. Phil in International Relations and a M.A. in Political Science. He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London.
He is married to Kyoko Jaishankar and has two sons and a daughter.
